Values & Standards

Runan is a celebration of the sturgeon’s natural environment, the waters of the Caspian Sea, driven by sturgeon preservation, sustainability and raising cultural awareness.

OUR FARM FAMILY

After months of research and travel, we discovered a remarkable community of fishermen and farmers along the shores of the Caspian Sea, masters of their craft who have perfected the art of caviar harvesting over decades. This community started to harvest caviar with the intent of personal guidance and celebration.

Together, we created habitats for sturgeon that closely mirror the Caspian Sea environment. Along the Caspian Sea, China and Italy.

The purity of the water, the quality of the air, and the natural vegetation all play a vital role in the well-being of these fishes. This approach ensures that Runan-certified farms operate ethically, giving back to the local community while upholding the highest standards for authentic Caspian caviar.

Inspired by the generational knowledge of the Runan communities.

STURGEON PROTECTION

Sturgeon, now endangered and on the IUCN Red List, requires global protection. Preserving these ancient creatures goes beyond harvesting them for pleasure. That’s why our commitment surpasses industry standards with stricter farming practices, ensuring optimal care and longevity for the fish.

To further support conservation, for every 100 grams of caviar harvested, we release a sturgeon into the wild, directly aiding the species’ repopulation and helping preserve the balance of the Caspian Sea’s ecosystem and ancient habitat.

It is vital to give back to the environment that sustains these remarkable creatures.

SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

The Runan packaging is thoughtfully designed in Germany with a focus on sustainability from beginning to end.

Each element is not only recyclable but crafted to be kept as a keepsake, inspired by the Caspian Sea. From the Pebble to the Cool-packs, every component has a purpose and reflects the use of natural materials.

AN ANCIENT MODERN RECIPE

Sturgeons are delicate, sensitive creatures, and their well-being directly affects the quality of the caviar they produce.

To ensure the finest roe, we create a cruelty-free environment that minimises their stress. None of our sturgeon, unlike non-Caspian Sea producers, have been relocated from their natural environment and transported to faraway countries or farms.

Our caviar is made fresh, using the traditional ‘Malossol’ method with just 3.4% salt, allowing the pure flavour to shine without excessive seasoning.

Unlike many producers, we prioritise quality over quantity, letting the sturgeon mature for at least 15 years before harvesting their roe.

In addition, Runan operates under strict adherence to CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), ensuring that our practices are not only sustainable but also fully compliant with global conservation standards.
