Runan

BORN FROM THE LOVE FOR THE ANCIENT ART OF CAVIAR.
A TRIBUTE TO THE DELICATE BALANCE BETWEEN

NATURE,
TIME
AND TRADITION.

AN ODE TO THE CASPIAN SEA.

THE FOUNDATION

Caviar, a symbol of elegance and indulgence, is more than a luxurious delicacy.

It is a story, a legacy of the sturgeon and the Caspian Sea, lovingly preserved through generations.

But what lies beneath these pearls of the sea?

The journey of RUNAN began with the founder Darina, whose childhood summers were spent on the shores of the Caspian in Astrakhan. She would build towers of wet sand, mimicking the beauty of concrete buildings in this town. Later, in her grandmother’s kitchen, she would sit with her for an afternoon ritual, dark bread, homemade butter, and the finest beluga caviar.

This moment, simple yet profound, it etched itself into her heart, infusing her with a love for the purity and heritage of caviar that would one day shape RUNAN.

RUNAN IS A REFLECTION OF THE SEA

A MEMORY, A SHARED MOMENT, A CURRENT FLOWING BETWEEN GENERATIONS.

AN ODE TO PURITY AND TRADITION, A RARE AND TIMELESS JOY, A QUIET INDULGENCE THAT CONNECTS THE PAST WITH THE FUTURE.

THE CASPIAN SEA

The Caspian Sea, the largest inland body of water on Earth, has, for centuries, been a wellspring of myth, mystery, and sustenance. It lies between Europe and Asia and borders Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Iran, and Azerbaijan.

The sturgeon, native to these waters, has become inseparable from the Caspian’s identity.

Sturgeons are ancient fish, known as "living fossils" because they have remained largely unchanged for over 200 million years.

Unfortunately, overfishing and pollution have critically endangered the sturgeon, putting it on the brink of extinction. Runan tries to fight against this, read more at Values and Sustainability.

RUNAN

The name RUNAN is drawn from ancient Persian, “Runan”, speaks of vast waters. In folklore, the Runan-shah, a majestic and mysterious being, is said to reign over the Caspian Sea.

Stories passed down through generations tell of a grand, amphibious creature, revered and feared by fishermen on the southern shores. The Runan-shah, they say, is the sea’s guardian.

THE PEBBLE

Runan Caviar's packaging, a smooth concrete pebble, combines modern minimalism with tradition and nature.

Inspired by the concrete architecture of Tadao Ando, Le Corbusier, and Alvaro Siza, it reflects the power and durability of concrete.

The functionality promises a cooling effect, that keeps the caviar inside cool from the outside.

This packaging embodies RUNAN’s philosophy: respect for heritage, thoughtful craftsmanship, and the harmonious blend of artistry and nature, drawing from the clean, monumental aesthetics of iconic concrete architecture.

A centre-piece for every special occasion that is fully recyclable, read more about it on the Values and Sustainability page.

THE RAW CONCRETE MIRRORS NATURE'S BEAUTY, WHILE THE SMOOTH DESIGN INVITES PAUSE AND REFLECTION.
